A Statewide Online Course for Teachers
Over four virtual sessions and one field trip, Hawai'i educators from grades 4-10 learned to engage students in field-based data collection and analysis by facilitating field trip(s) for students to engage them in meaningful outdoor watershed Citizen Science & stewardship. Further, participants in this course were connected with community experts and scientists.
In this field-based workshop on Maui, educators from grades 4-7 spent three days in the field, visiting Waikamoi Forest Preserve, Waiheʻe Coastal Dunes and Wetlands Refuge, Waiheʻe Ridge Trail, Kealia Ponds National Wildlife Refuge, and Kānaha Ponds State Wildlife Sanctuary. Then, educators applied field-research by participating in a classroom WET Lab.
